About Oliver
Bio & Approach
Oliver Bailey is a registered psychotherapist with extensive experience supporting individuals through a wide range of mental health challenges. He has worked in long-term care with patients dealing with conditions such as schizophrenia, anxiety, depression, and dementia. Oliver’s internships at Sunnybrook Hospital—within the palliative care wing, veterans’ center, and complex dementia unit—have given him valuable insight into working with diverse and complex needs. Additionally, his time at the Thompson Anxiety Centre, specifically in the acute OCD in-patient program, has further refined his approach to treating anxiety-related disorders.
Oliver’s therapeutic approach is rooted in both scientific and philosophical traditions. Drawing from Eastern philosophies like Taoism and Western thought such as Stoicism, he promotes a balance between acceptance of the present and proactive change. He believes that mindfulness, emotional awareness, and intentional action are key to cultivating inner peace and emotional resilience.
Approaches Used in Therapy
Oliver utilizes a wide range of therapeutic approaches to meet the unique needs of each individual. He integrates:
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
DBT is a form of cognitive-behavioral therapy that emphasizes the balance between acceptance and change. It is particularly effective in treating individuals with intense emotions, self-harming behaviors, or difficulty managing interpersonal relationships. DBT helps individuals develop skills in mindfulness, emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness. It is commonly used for personality disorders, mood disorders, and complex trauma.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
CBT focuses on the connection between thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. By identifying and challenging unhelpful or irrational thought patterns, clients can reframe negative thinking and develop healthier responses to life's challenges. CBT is highly effective for treating anxiety, depression, phobias, and other mood disorders, providing clients with practical tools to reduce distress and enhance well-being.
Music Therapy
Music therapy uses the emotional and cognitive power of music to help individuals express themselves, process emotions, and build resilience. This form of therapy is particularly useful for those who struggle with verbal communication or are dealing with deep emotional wounds. Music therapy can reduce anxiety, improve emotional expression, and enhance self-awareness. It is especially beneficial for individuals dealing with trauma, dementia, developmental disorders, and emotional dysregulation.
Oliver’s holistic method is flexible and tailored to each client’s needs, emphasizing self-discovery and empowerment through mindful, practical techniques that align with their personal journey.

At Oliver Bailey Psychotherapy, our philosophy is centered around the belief that healing is possible for everyone. We understand that mental health struggles are deeply personal, and no two experiences are the same. Oliver tailors each session to meet the unique needs of his clients, combining evidence-based therapeutic techniques with a warm, supportive approach. His work is grounded in:
Empathy: Every client deserves to be heard and understood without judgment.
Collaboration: Therapy is a collaborative process where both therapist and client work together to set goals and achieve meaningful change.
Resilience: With the right support, everyone has the capacity to heal and grow stronger from life's challenges.
Personalized Care: No two clients are alike, and therapy sessions are tailored to the individual’s specific needs, goals, and experiences.
